Digital moisture meter

For measuring moisture content of wood prior to
burning (it should be below 20% to prevent creosote deposits
building up in chimney).
The lower the moisture content the greater the heat
given out when burnt. This is a device that pays for itself with just
a couple of uses.
Use dryer wood to conserve fuel and generate more
heat. Wood burnt with a 30% moisture content will give off
approximately half of the heat of the same wood burnt with a 20%
moisture content.
- Requires 9V PP3 battery.
- Measure Range: 5% to 40%.
- Resolution: 1%.
- Accuracy: ± 1%.
- Size 125 X 65 X 25mm, weight 77g
- Battery life continuous use for approximately 150
hours.

Good practice with solid fuels information
sheet |
Solid fuel compares favourably with gas, electric, heating oil,
LPG etc.
Whilst it is not usually practical or desirable to heat an entire
building with solid fuel, it provides an excellent low cost heating
supplement. This is especially true when you consider the average UK
household uses 58% of its energy expenditure on space (room)
heating. Solid fuel appliances repay their capital costs faster than
a new boiler or most other energy saving installations.
Price per kWh (Kilo Watt hour) is a follows:
Fuel |
Price per kWh
|
Gas |
3.7 pence |
Electric |
12.6 pence |
Bulk heating oil |
5.8 pence |
Bulk LPG |
7.1 pence |
Solid Fuels |
|
Coal |
3.2 pence |
Smokeless coal |
6.7 pence |
Wood chip |
3.2 pence |
Wood pellet |
5.2 pence |
Wood log |
9 pence |
Gas &
Electric prices excludes standing charge. Heating oil requires a
considerable investment in infrastructure, namely a storage tank
and this is not reflected in it's purchase price. |
