Saltfire ST2 example installation in Gardener Street Portslade  Brighton BN41

This installation was in Gardener Street in Portslade west of Hove.

The Saltfire ST2 was chosen for its curved almost Art Deco appearance, efficiency (81.3%), price and multi-fuel abilities.

An existing opening in the lounge was used and the flue was pressure tested by Sean Wilson the Brighton Chimney Sweep.

The pressure test revealed that the flue was compromised but not disastrously. A view was taken to line the flue with a flexible 9 metre Schiedel twinwall liner.

Due to proximity to the seafront and gull nesting habits and occasional driving rain a combined bird and rain cowl were fitted.

The Cornish slate hearth was pre purchased and left ready for installation.

The potentially messy work of fitting the liner was carried out first and then the new slate hearth was bedded on high heat silicone to allow removal if necessary. The Saltfire ST2 stove requires a 12mm hearth and a 225mm (9") projection as minimum this was exceeded in this installation.

Access panels were put into the registration plate to allow inspection of the liner/flue pipe connection as required by building regulations. Also a sweeps door was used in the flue pipe due to the Saltfire ST2's fixed throat plate and the use of a chimney liner.

A nice curve was achieved in the registration plate to mirror the curved brick arch. The hearth was finished and sealed with WD40 to protect against staining and to achieve a 'wet slate' look.

The total installation came to £1404 including supply of the burner and liner and was completed in just one visit.
