Ekol Clarity double sided 14kW example installation in Dorothy Road Hove BN3
This installation was in Dorothy Road, Hove.
The installation was in a 1920s house and the Clarity was selected
as it is about the best value double sided burner on the market.
Briefly entertained were Town & Country's double sided Wellburn
and Vesta's double sided offering.
Prior to the installation, the flue was checked by NACS registered
sweep, (Sean
Wilson) and passed as fit for use. The impetus for a stove
installation was the fact that the open fire was consuming wood faster
than seemed sensible. Initially a single sided stove was wanted until
the possibilities of opening the recess into the kitchen became the
chosen path.
The fireplace, fireback and opening were cleared in one day and the
opening was reinforced with two concrete lintels, one for each side.
The walls were packed out with lime render and Shaun Jenkins, the
plasterer, was called.
Shaun did his usual stunning job plastering the exterior and
rendering in the recess. The customer laid the brick hearth from
bricks reclaimed from previous building projects. The hearth was PVA'd
which gave it a low sheen gloss. The Ekol is suitable for a 12mm
hearth and is the world's only Defra approved double sided burner. The
property in question was outside of the smoke control area but a
sensible choice as Defra approval equates to almost invisible smoke
from the chimney.
The day of the installation the burner required three people to
move it, it is in the region of 140KG. However once in the house it
was slotted into position without issue.
The installation was for a repeat customer whom previously had a
Broseley eVolution logstore but left it behind when they moved.
The total installation came to £1929
including supply of the burner and was completed in several visits
over about 2 weeks.
