Broseley eVolution 5 example installation in Friar road Brighton BN1
This installation was in Friar BN1 road not far from Fiveways &
Patcham and Varndean School in Brighton.
This was my third Broseley eVolution 5 installation in Friar road,
it would seem word and mouth is the best form of advertising.
The installation was in a 1930s house and the eVolution was
selected for its lines, efficiency (85.5%) and the fact the customer
had witnessed the two previous installations.
An existing fireplace was removed and the fireback dug out. The
back hearth was repaired and Sean Wilson the
Brighton Chimney Sweep swept and pressure tested the flue.
The opening was made good and the flue passed the pressure test (no
smoke into habitable space and the flue held the smoke without leakage
for 10 minutes). No liner was deemed necessary.
The hearth was remade using brick pavers (seconds for a rustic
look) from Chailey brick works. Joints were all mortared with lime
mortar with a good measure of sharp sand so when they were rubbed back
the stones come to the surface similar to washed concrete.
The wooden mantel was located out of the combustion zone (three
times the width of the pipe, in this case 18" away)
The opening was decorated and the installation was completed.
The eVolution is an interestingly constructed stove. About as far
from a metal box with a fire in it as can be conceived. It has a steel
inner with cast iron cladding, it took two of us to lift the appliance
into position. It also has a unique flame pattern when it reaches
temperature and a remarkably responsive air control.
The total installation came to £1695
including supply of the burner and was completed in three visits in
just over a week.
